Bungoma High School is an extra-county secondary school based in the Western region of Kenya in Bungoma County. The boys’ school has established its name as a center of excellence, recording impressive performance year after year.
Despite being an Extra-County school, it has been competing shoulder-to-shoulder with the national schools that have the privilege of selecting top candidates from primary school countrywide. Other than academics the school has earned a name in Drama and Music festivals in the region.

The above results for the 2023 KCSE match their motto “Be the Light” as they shinned in their ways. For an Extra-county school to record a pass rate of 57% with 199 students joining the University and 132 students joining college can be marked as a great achievement.
On top of that, the school recorded a mean score of 7.13 which represents a C+ a better performance compared to some of the national schools in the country. The school joins the likes of Jamhuri High which is also one of the best-performing extra-county schools in the country.

Bungoma High School History
The history of Bungoma High School dates back to the early 1960s when Africans started to experience a feeling of freedom. Unlike other big schools that were founded by colonial rulers like Bunyore Girls, Bungoma High School was founded by an African educationist the late Mr. Joseph Wanyonyi Syambi.
Syambi founded the school in 1961 intending to give youths from Bungoma a better education to enhance their lives. Being a strong education believer Mr. Wanyonyi believed a better education yields a better future a fact that has been vindicated by time.
Since the establishment of the school, it has grown to become one of the biggest and most successful schools in the Western region boosting a huge population and good learning infrastructure. The school has also produced some of the most productive men in the society including the slain businessman and billionaire Jacob Juma.
The school has managed to excel in activities other than education, the school has managed to do well in sports and they are known as a local champion when it comes to drama and music festivals.
