Mercy Mwangangi went to Pangani Girls High School before proceeding to the University of Nairobi for her tertiary education. She left the UON in 2009, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the age of 23. She graduated with a Master of Health Economics and Policy from the University of Adelaide, Australia in 2019. Mercy is the firstborn in a family of three siblings. While her mother, Florence Mwanangi serves as the Machakos County Assembly Speaker, her father is a renowned businessman who owns a chain of high-end Hotels and Connections in Mlolongo, Machakos county.

Mercy Mwangangi Marriage
Despite being beautiful and wealthy, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi is not yet married. She revealed it while addressing a rally in Migori county in the company of ODM leader Raila Odinga, where she jokingly stated that Raila Odinga had promised her a husband from the region.However, in a separate interview, Dr. Mwangangi told Daily Nation that she was in a serious relationship with a man whom he described as a very supportive.
“Baba (Raila Odinga) has assured me that I can get a husband from this region. Please help me get a husband,” said Mwangangi amid cheers from the locals.
Dr Mercy Mwangangi Career
After completing her Master of Business Administration, she was appointed the Head of Health Financing and Health Economics at the Ministry of Health. Prior to the appointment, she had worked for 18 months at the ministry without pay. She was later promoted to Chief Administrative Secretary for the Ministry of Health.
Apart from that, Mercy also works as a joint secretary in the task force on Universal Health coverage, one of the pillars of Jubilee’s big four agenda.
She is also a member of the African Women in Leadership Program (AWLP),
a program that enables women to conduct discussions on issues affecting women and to share valuable insights to help in the advancement of African women.
Mwangangi’s Role in the fight against Covid-19
Since Covid-19 struck the country in early 2020, Mwangangi has been on the forefront in fighting the pandemic alongside Health CS, Mutahi Kagwe. She was sent to the podium on Wednesday, 25th March to announce the Covid-19 statistics in the country. when she appeared on TV giving updates on the covid-19 cases in Kenya.
According to statistics that day, there were 7 new cases raising the number to 179, 5 of which were found through surveillance while 2 people had been quarantined. 5 of the cases were in Nairobi, one in Mombasa, and one in Uasin Gishu County. She wided up the press conference by stating that 5,278 samples had been tested by that time.
Interestingly, she endeared many Kenyans by the intelligence showcased as she fluently and eloquently answered questions from journalists.
She has since appeared severally on TV while addressing the press briefing at Afya House. In one instance, she demonstrated to Kenyans on the right way to wear face mask. This proved to be beneficial to many Kenyans who were inappropriately wearing the masks at that time. Judjing from her previous work at the Ministry, it is evident that Dr. Mwangangi would make a very good CS if given a chance.
