Ever since he joined the comedy industry, he has built and established his brand as a top comedian that no one can ever dare dispute. In 2020, he was named as the best comedian in Africa or simply the president of comedy in Africa, not just in Kenya, but Africa as a continent.

Eric is a second born in a family of four. He has a brother called Fred Omondi, who is also a comedian and lives in the City, and a younger sister called Rose Omondi.

Omondi enrolled at Daystar University for his tertiary education in 2006 and graduated in 2010 with a bachelor of arts degree in Mass Communication.

Since his days as a student, Eric had always wanted to be a news reporter. After graduating from University, he started out as a reporter at NTV Kenya. However, this was not meant to be as he was kicked out barely two weeks after getting hired. He did a story that was not well received by his seniors at NTV. Terming him as not good enough to be a reporter, moreso at their station, they dismissed him immediately.
It is then that he decided to chase his dreams in the comedy world. He was signed by Churchill as a comedian on Churchill Live and began performing as a stand-up Comedian. A year later, he was hired to host his own comedy show dubbed Hawayu at KTN, the show was later canceled due to poor performance.

After his show was canceled at KTN, Eric went back to the drawing board to strategize on how to improve his comedy. He started delivering electrifying performances on Churchill Show, which placed his name among the greatest comedians on Kenyan soil.
He later left Churchill Show with his godfather’s (Churchill) blessings to launch his own comedy show that he named Hawayuni single-handedly. He continued with stand-up comedy as well as acting comedy skits that helped him build a large base of followers on social media. Currently, he gets booked to perform in different foreign countries both as a stand-up comedian or as an Emcee.
He has received several awards and nominations including in 2020 when he won the African Entertainment Award as the best comedian in Africa.

Scandals and Controversies.
In 2020, Eric Omondi launched a reality TV show dubbed Wife Material. The show consists of a selection of 9 ladies aspiring to be Eric’s wife and Eric himself as the potential husband.
The requirement was that every girl should showcase all that they have to qualify them to be Eric’s Wife. However, the show did not go well with the authorities and the section of netizens and had to be canceled after season 1 was over.
It was so bad that the ladies had to display their private parts and nudes with the hope of being selected as the winner. The then CEO of Kenya Films Classification Board Mr. Ezekiel Mutua banned the show and declared it unfit for public consumption. In fact, the moral Cop termed the entire show as an immoral activity similar to pornography and other related vices.
In early 2021, Eric demanded a fight with rapper Khaligraph Jones who is heavily built and a bodybuilder. The ‘Fight’ which was sponsored by Lotto Foundation Kenya went down at Kenyatta University Amphitheatre and you can guess the results. Despite asking for a fight, Eric was badly thrashed by the Legendary OG, the two are however on good terms now.
