He took the helm from his predecessor Ian Fernandes who resigned in 2019 due to personal reasons. However, at the time he took over he was serving in an acting capacity.

Mediamax is one of the media houses in Kenya that has grown rapidly since it was founded. The media house is owned by different shareholders including the Kenyatta family, William Ruto, and others. Currently, William Ruto is the majority shareholder with 60% of the company shares.

Career
Ken has over 20 years of career experience in the media, advertising, and manufacturing industries. During this stint, he has served in different capacities in different companies.
Some of the positions he has held include COO at Crown Solution Ltd and CFO at Red Sky Ltd. Prior to his current position at Mediamax, he had served with the station for 10 years serving in different positions.
Being a professional accountant he served as the Chief Finance Officer at Mediamax. In addition, he also served as the COO at the same company.
Having worked with the media house for a decade he had gained more experience in the business and also he had earned the required leadership skills. In 2019, he was appointed to serve as the Chief Executive Office but in an acting capacity.
His appointment came after the then CEO Ian Fernandes resigned due to personal reasons. When he took over he never tried to fit in Ian’s shoes but wore his own which saw the company advance over a short time.
In June 2020, after the arrival of Covid 19, Ngaruiya found himself on the Limelights trending for the wrong reasons. This was after he fired almost the entire K24 newsroom after they opposed the mandatory 50% pay cut that had been imposed on them.
However, he came out to defend himself citing that the company had lost a lot of channels that were generating revenue due to the Pandemic. Some of the prominent journalists who left the station after the pay cut include Bety Kyalo and comedian Jalang’o.
After serving as the acting CEO for almost two years, on 22nd January 2021, the board directors confirmed his appointment, becoming the new MediaMax CEO. According to the board of directors, his experience and leadership skills were some of the things that made him the best fit for the job.
Since he took over he has managed to take the media house to the next level and currently it’s one of the most profitable media houses in Kenya.
