Moi Girls High School Eldoret History

Moi Girls High School Eldoret was established in 1928 during the colonial era to serve the children of the British Settlers. The school was founded as a primary school and was named The European Primary School. At the time the school had already established The European School Nairobi which was later named Kenya High.

After a while, the school was renamed from The European Primary School to Highland Primary School. In the 1930’s the school relocated across the Sosiani river becoming the now Hill School.

With the need to give the child girl education, the white settlers decided to establish a girl’s high school. In 1954 the school officially opened its doors with a new name, New Girls’ High School serving as an extension of The European Girls School now Kenya High.

The school was later renamed The Highlands School before being named Moi Girls Eldoret after former president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi took the helm as the second president of Kenya.
