Samuel Kirubi is a Kenyan businessman serving as the current Chief Operating Officer for Equity Bank Groups. He was appointed on November 21, 2022, Previously Samuel Kirubi served as the Equity Bank Uganda Managing Director.
According to Equity Kirubi’s role will be to better the bank’s capacity into delivering on its strategy by aligning people, processes, systems, commercial business, and business risk to customers’ aspirations.
Samuel Kirubi Academic Qualifications
Samuel Kirubi attained his master’s Degree in business administration from Moi university and also a BA in Economics and statistics from Egerton university in 1997. He met Dr.James Mwangi, the founder of Equity bank while still in the University becoming one of the first beneficiaries of the equity leadership program.
He was later attached to one of the Equity branches as a student and he rose with the ranks until he was permanently employed by the company. He later decided to further his studies and joined the Strathmore IESE Business school in Barcelona, Spain where he graduated with an advanced management program.
Career
His experience in the banking world exceeds two decades and he has worked with different Equity banks across Africa having joined the institution in 2001. Kirubi previously served as Chief Operating Officer operating in South Sudan one of their subsidiary banks. After that, he got promoted becoming the funding Managing Director at Equity Bank Rwanda where he serve for several years before he got transferred to Uganda in 2015 to serve in the same capacity.
When he landed in Uganda he brought significant changes as he successfully managed to uplift Equity Bank Uganda from loss-making to being the 5th most profitable bank and the third most profitable subsidiary of Equity in the country after Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo. His success in most of his previous positions was one of the reasons that led to his promotion to his current position.
Currently, Equity Bank is one of the leading African banks operating most in the Eastern African Region. Being tasked with the lender’s group’s operation in different countries will be a huge task but judging from his abilities he will deliver in full force.
